Why I Want To Get Into Medical School


Medical is a noble profession. But being noble is not what it is all about. It’s about the passion of helping people who can’t help themselves. It’s about contributing to humanity for its betterment. It’s about going forward with discovery of new ways to bring cure to diseases which cause pain to people. I am a sensitive person, who always felt uncomfortable when I saw others in pain. That is why I would like to choose medical as my profession.

B. Berston M.D once said "... a funny thing happens to medical students on their way to becoming physicians: they forget how to hold a conversation". This quote signifies the importance of how communication skills are important in the medical profession. I, however, have excellent communication skills which makes me well suited for a medical career. By working as a bartender and as a waiter, constantly meeting and chatting with new people has dramatically improved my communication skills. I am now not only a good conversationalist, but also an excellent listener. Once in the medical school, I would like to provide information to the public on treatment and prevention of various diseases, and I believe my experience as a teaching assistant at high school can help me a lot with this.

Being from a Greek family, I have also experienced the differences and similarities among diverse cultural groups and geographical areas. This has allowed me to relate to different types of people, an important trait that I believe will help me work well with other medical students and help me serve my patients better.
